Classroom in Bloom

Give Methow Participant

School Gardens Help Children GROW!
Children love their school garden classroom - while eating a healthy snack, working with their hands in the dirt, or playing an educational game! The impacts reach every child's social, emotional, and physical wellbeing - and academics achievements improve when these basic needs are met. Your gift to Classroom in Bloom is leaving a lasting legacy in support of sustainable farming, outdoor education, and empowering students to learn to grow their own food. We start planting seeds with our youngest students in kindergarten, and grow to meet high schoolers in career and technical education programs. From the Methow Valley to Okanogan County, thank you for helping every child learn in their outdoor garden classroom.

Cove Food Bank

Give Methow Participant

The COVE is a multi-faceted non-profit serving the communities of Methow Valley through its mission to "provide food and assistance to people in need while honoring and respecting one another during difficult times in our lives."
The COVE is comprised of five programs to benefit those of economic disadvantage in the community: The Methow Valley Food Bank, Friday Food, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Aid and Assistance and Manger Mall. The Methow Valley Food Bank is the flagship of The COVE. We serve households from Mazama to Methow along the Highway 20/153 corridor. On average, 65-70 households (120-150 people) benefit from the offerings of Food Bank each week. We offer a balanced menu of food each week intended to supplement a family's grocery needs, providing relief from the issues of food insecurity in times of economic difficulty. Friday Food, an offshoot of the original "Backpack Food" style program offers a weekly bundle of nutritious snacks and lunch-type meal fixings geared toward youth. The intent is to provide food to kids who have hunger related challenges over the weekend when schools are closed and parents are not available, for whatever reason. The COVE ships bundles of food to the school on Thursday and the food is anonymously placed in a child's school locker for them to take home for the weekend. We serve between 75-100 local youth per week through Friday Food. Manger Mall and Neighbors Helping Neighbors are once-a-year programs during the Holiday season. Manger Mall provides parents of need a chance to shop for and buy gifts for their children they might not otherwise be able to afford. The Manger Mall team collects donations of toys, books, clothing and money throughout the year, registers clients and holds a one-day shopping event in early December. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is the one-day holiday meal distribution, usually on the Saturday before Christmas. The effort requires about one hundred local volunteers, some of whom assemble meal bundles, some load vehicles and about 80 volunteers in 40+ vehicles deliver those food bundles to over 100 needy families, again over a forty-mile stretch of the valley from Methow to Mazama. The Aid and Assistance fund provides once-a-year financial help to clients faced with a loss of critical utilities, payment of medical or other bills, or help with gasoline for transportation. Clients must apply and meet with our Executive Director, Glenn Schmekel, to be eligible for the aid. All of the programs of The COVE are annually budgeted by the parent organization, which is dependent upon the generosity of the community through efforts like the Give Methow campaign. Give Methow generally provides for about 25-33% of the annual budget of the organization.

Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance - Methow Valley Chapter

Give Methow Participant

We seek to improve your trail experience
Each year, when the snow begins to melt, the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance-Methow Chapter is already at work logging out trails like Climb-It Change, Wild Turkey, Thompson Ridge and Black Bear. Ever wonder why those breaking bumps and deep ruts on Pete's that are ever present in the fall are magically gone each spring? Our professional trail crew and dedicated volunteers are all about enhancing your trail experience. This past year we spent over $30,000 just on Sun Mountain maintenance alone. Did you ride Thompson Ridge Trail recently and wonder why that descent didn't have any fire weed? Our trail crew and volunteers waited until the brush was at its max height and then cleared the descent for your enjoyment. Those pesky trees that fall down mid season get cut out so quickly because we have a dedicated sawyer crew waiting to clear them. We cannot do what we do without our professional trail crew and volunteers. Please, think about this upcoming spring and think about how your trail experience would be affected without our trail crew. Just a quick set of numbers: Number of trees logged out from Thompson Ridge before May 1st: 30 Number of trees logged out from Sun Mountain prior to May 1st: > 100 Number of maintenance hours ( volunteer and professional) spent this spring Pete's maintenance alone: 250 In addition to Sun Mountain, trails like Buck Mountain, Buck Up and the newer trail development at Loup Loup are all maintained by Evergreen. We are also committed to improving the signage at Sun Mountain and are actively working with the Methow Valley Ranger district to finally have a comprehensive signage plan. A portion of proceeds from Give Methow this year will go directly to Sun Mountain Signage. As an organization, we will continue to strive and enhance your trail experience here in the Methow! Please support the Methow Chapter this October!

Your donation increases these opportunities, brings guest speakers and musicians. Let's continue to grow the new resource this community built!

Grange

Give Methow Participant

The Twisp Valley Grange needs your support to operate the hall as a Cooling Center; host Candidate Forums, community potlucks and more; and provide a beautiful, comfortable and affordable rental venue that everyone in the Methow Valley can enjoy.
Give Methow is the Twisp Valley Grange's only annual giving campaign. Your support supplements our Grange Hall rental fees and is critical for allowing us to keep rental rates affordable for all residents and nonprofit organizations in the Methow Valley. Your support last year provided us with matching funds for a Dept. of Commerce grant for heat pumps. Thanks to your support, we opened the Grange Hall this summer as a Cooling Center during periods of extreme heat. The new cooling capacity allowed Aero Methow and Methow at Home to continue their SAIL program (Stay Active and Independent for Life program for seniors) during the heat of the summer. The Grange continues our 113-year tradition of giving to the community in other ways as well. For example, we host the Candidate Forums and community potlucks, and offer fun family events like the Santa Breakfast and old-time square and contra dancing. We collaborate with other nonprofits, including Kiwanis for the Easter Egg Hunt and The Cove for Manager Mall cookie decorating. Thank you for your support.

Mazama Community Club

Give Methow Participant

Maintaining a historic building and community amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy the upper valley.
The Mazama Community Club is the site of a schoolhouse built in 1921. Since then, the club has added amenities including housing for a Methow Trails grooming machine, USPS mailboxes, a picnic shelter, playground, and pickleball court, all used by residents and visitors. Maintaining a century old building and other amenities is costly and labor intensive. The MCC is the only affordable venue available for rent or public use in the upper valley. It is used by non-profits for ski clinics, race starts, non-profit gatherings, public meetings, ukulele practice, game and movie nights, as well as rented for private events. The MCC has no paid positions and is run by a volunteer board and member volunteers.

Methow Arts Alliance

Give Methow Participant

Methow Arts enriches the lives of people in Okanogan county by making the arts an integral and dynamic part of public school education, economic vitality, and community.
Methow Arts Alliance has been a cornerstone in fostering creativity and enriching the lives of children and adults in our community for almost 40 years. Arts education has been shown to have profound effects on students' cognitive and emotional development. According to numerous studies, students engaged in the arts are more likely to excel academically, showing improved performance in subjects like mathematics, reading, and critical thinking. Methow Arts Alliance's program provides students with: 1. Enhanced Learning Experiences: Our programs integrate arts into the standard curriculum, making learning more engaging and effective. 2. Creative Expression: We offer students a safe space to express themselves creatively, which is essential for their emotional and social well-being. 3. Skill Development: Through various art forms, students develop critical skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation. Every dollar raised during Give Methow goes directly to supporting our arts in education program across Okanogan County, serving over 5000 students. This program has been designed to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of students and create a sense of belonging to better root students to their peers, school, and community.

Methow Beaver Project

Give Methow Participant

Beavers and People Restoring OUR Watersheds Together
Do you feel good about our community's water security? What about our watershed's wildfire resilience? Do you appreciate thriving local plant communities and abundant habitat for our fish and wildlife? Well what if we told you that beavers are a critical partner in helping us to achieve these conditions but they need us to be good partners too? At Methow Okanogan Beaver Project, we partner with beavers to restore our degraded waterways, store more water naturally for a drier and hotter future, and improve the function, resilience, and biodiversity of the Methow and Okanogan Watershed communities. As our project grows in scope and scale to meet the needs of our watersheds, we ask for our region's support to expand and accelerate this critical climate resilience work for all of us. Your generous contributions fund our beaver-based stream restoration, beaver/human coexistence services, education and outreach programs, beaver relocation from irreconcilable conflict, and efforts to modernize beaver management policy. Our vision for the future is an Okanogan County and a North American continent that are more resilient, biodiverse, complex, and connected. We hope you'll join us to make this future a reality.

Methow Conservancy

Give Methow Participant

Working with the community to protect the wildlife habitat, fertile soil, public access to trails, and scenic views we all love. First Tuesday, Mill Hill, Sunny M, Methow Grown, open spaces: this is what community-based conservation looks like.
You love the Methow Valley and you care about its future. So do we. For the Methow Conservancy, that love translates into protecting the Valley's clean water, fertile soils, and diverse wildlife habitat. It means offering educational programs that help us all understand this landscape. It also translates into caring about the human habitat – making sure our conservation efforts work in concert with community needs. That's why we play a role in creating solutions for affordable housing, bolstering community resiliency for wildfire preparation and recovery, and working to ensure that the Methow Descendants are welcome on the land that has been their home since Time Immemorial. Yes, we are a land trust, and we care about wild places, farmland, and healthy ecosystems. And, yes, we believe a land trust must be more than that. We are an organization rooted in our love of this place and this community – both human and wild. Together we can make sure that what we all love about the Methow Valley endures forever.

Methow Cycling Team Education Foundation

Give Methow Participant

Supporting leadership, teamwork, healthy lifestyles and community service through cycling in the Methow Valley.
MCTEF is the fundraising arm of the Methow Cycling Team, an all volunteer team of riders and coaches offering spring and fall mountain bike seasons for kids in Grades 6-12. We are part of the greater WA Student Cycling League and attend races at various trails here in the Methow and throughout the state. Our riders have the opportunity to develop bike skills, trail etiquette, training and health routines, team camaraderie, and leadership skills during practices. We value community service and spend time every season building and maintaining (including weeding!) our local school trail. As an organization, we strive to offer ways to reduce financial barriers to participation, while at the same time building a healthy, fun experience for all. With your support, we will continue to provide this great programming for our kids and community.

Methow Descendants

Give Methow Participant

Supporting the mətx̌ʷu /Methow Descendants' cultural programming and land stewardship on traditional land along the Chewuch River. Help sustain the programs and offer the community an opportunity to learn more about its rich and complex human history.

This cultural programming (including traditional food, medicine, dances, regalia, songs, arts, and crafts) and land stewardship are supported administratively by the Methow Conservancy and the Methow Valley Interpretive Center. These programs help the mətx̌ʷu /Methow Descendants reconnect with their traditional land and cultural traditions on the Chewuch River; ensure that cultural knowledge endures across generations; and express and share cultural heritage with all area residents—both Native and non-Native—who wish to learn.

Methow Housing Trust

Give Methow Participant

Be a part of changing the course of housing history in the Methow Valley. Your gift will help ensure that local folks will have access to quality, affordable housing forever.
For many Methow Valley residents, the stability and benefits of homeownership have felt very much out of reach. As the Valley grows and changes, living wages cannot keep pace with dramatically increasing real estate values, leaving more and more Valley households in unsustainable living situations. Thanks to exceptional community investment, the Methow Housing Trust has developed 49 permanently affordable homes. With continued community support, we are working hard towards constructing at least 100 permanently affordable, quality homes by the end of 2030.

Methow Pride

Give Methow Participant

Methow Pride is here for community, inclusiveness, and belonging.
Methow Pride is working toward creating a rural haven where LGBTQIA+ individuals see themselves represented intergenerationally, believe in their creative expression, share their voices, build thriving intergenerational relationships, and find rural belonging. We ultimately want to keep LGBTQIA+ people present, safe, and alive in this rural and natural space. We accomplish our vision through year-round programming including community connection, education, and advocacy. Your support allows us to grow and deepen our programming to include more consistent gatherings and educational events supporting growth in our rural community.

Methow Recycles

Give Methow Participant

Thinking beyond the trash can and creating a rural circular economy through repair, share, reuse, compost, and recycle
We believe low-waste living is the key action step to combating climate change. When we make the choice to be mindful of the resources we use, it does matter. We can make a difference everyday in our kitchens by composting, in our homes by reusing and repairing items before throwing them away, and in our communities by sharing the resources we have. Unfortunately in rural communities, the trash can is often the only available option. At Methow Recycles, we are changing that for our community. When you live in the Methow Valley, you have access to robust repair, share, reuse, and recycling programs. We do this to give our community an opportunity to be an active part of the solution through everyday choices. The landfill shouldn't be the best place for our precious resources. Join us in creating better options for waste in rural places and making low-waste living a part of the culture of our community.

Methow Trails

Give Methow Participant

Year-round trail maintenance for world-class trail experiences
If your life is made better by the trails in the Methow Valley, please help support our work. Fallen trees, brushy trails, aging bridges, rocky tread, bathrooms repairs... When the grooming wraps up, the work continues! Our trail network requires constant maintenance on all 120+ miles in every month of the year, and we rely on grants and donations to keep our trails in excellent shape for all to enjoy, year-round. Your gift will support free trail access for non-winter months, new and improved trailhead, toilet, and parking infrastructure, critical bridge replacement and rebuilds, free skiing for kids 17 and under, free skiing for those 75 years and older, areas of free winter trail access for all, and programs that encourage and support a thriving recreation community. Methow Trails needs your help to continue to bring you the excellent trails you love.

Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival

Give Methow Participant

Our Festival brings world-renowned musicians to the Methow Valley to perform professional chamber music concerts each year.

Save the dates:

  • Winter Concert, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, February 15 and 16, 2025
  • Summer Festival, Thursday and Saturday evenings, June 19 and 21, June 26 and 28, 2025

This is the 28th year of our Festival. During our 2024 Summer Festival we sold out our 4 ticketed concerts. The concerts were attended by a total of 900 people. We serve Okanogan County and nearby counties, especially those unable to travel to a metropolitan area or without the means to enjoy a professional music performance. Seattle and Spokane are each nearly 200 miles away. Our venue, the Methow Valley Community Center in Twisp, WA is central to the Valley, ADA-accessible, and can be reached by walking, the Trango bus system, or driving.

We collaborate with local music groups such as Cascadia Music, Methow Valley Theater, and The Pipestone School of Music. We share our acoustical shells and walls that help with sound amplification. We provide summer camp scholarships for Pipestone students—8 in 2023. We donate dozens of tickets to student musicians (under 17), 45 in 2024 and to local social service organizations to help those who historically might not be able to attend a chamber music concert.

During the Festival we perform free concerts throughout the Valley at libraries, hotels, and restaurants, reaching families with children who might not attend a full concert thus allowing them to come and listen for as long as they want.

Each year students planning to major or minor in music can intern/assist with stage management, venue set up, lighting, and sound. We give free tickets to volunteers who assist with ushering, food service, venue setup and takedown, and donated art sales for fundraising.

Methow Valley Citizens Council

Give Methow Participant

Since 1976, MVCC has helped preserve the rural character, wildlife, and natural areas of the Methow Valley from the pressures of development and today, climate change. During Give Methow, help us protect the place we all love by giving today.
Rural Character—that elusive quality that many small, mountain towns have lost but the Methow still has. It includes room for both people and wildlife to roam, seeing the stars at night, breathing clean, unpolluted air, and clean, flowing water for salmon in our rivers and people to make their livelihoods. It also means understanding that neighboring can be a verb—that the effort we put in to giving to our neighbors forms the community fabric we so value. For 48 years MVCC has worked to protect the rural character of the Methow Valley by advocating for policies that have profoundly influenced how the Methow Valley looks today. Due to our decades of advocacy work and the work of countless organizations and volunteers, the valley has held on to many of the qualities that keep it rural. But with unprecedented growth and development pressure here to stay, it takes sustained, intentional effort to hold onto our rural character into the future. With the support of our community, we can continue vital efforts in the Methow Valley including engaging the next generations of Methow advocates. We need enough engaged and committed citizens who care about the future of this place to keep it from traveling down the traditional mountain resort-town path. During Give Methow, help us to protect and nourish this place we all love for generations to come by giving to MVCC today. Learn more about all we're doing to protect our environment and rural character at https://mvcitizens.org/our-work-today/

Methow Valley Community Center

Give Methow Participant

The Methow Valley Community Center Association (MVCCA) has been serving the community for over 40 years. We provide opportunities for everyone in the arts, education, music, and recreation. We seek ongoing support for our mission.
Methow Valley Community Center Association (MVCCA) was founded in 1978 when local residents saw an opportunity to transform the former Twisp school into a community center. The building had fallen into disrepair after the Winthrop and Twisp Schools consolidated. MVCCA volunteers fixed broken windows, repaired water damage, and painted the building, all at their own expense. MVCCA was born and for over 40 years has served children and adults with classes, Twisp library, recreation, and programs that enrich our community. We serve as a Red Cross emergency shelter and valley hub. Your support is crucial to our mission to "Honoring our Past, Caring for our Community & Building our Future." Thanks to you, we can keep our doors open and contribute to a vibrant community.

In addition, the Methow Valley Interpretive Center is now the proud new owner and steward of Homestream Park, and serves as the fiscal sponsor for several programs on the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. These programs empower Indigenous youth to learn new skills related to cultural Tribal knowledge and environmental stewardship. MVTC builds and strengthens relationships between land managers, trail advocates, and trail users to enhance sustainable trail experiences in the Methow Valley. In the summer, our staff hosts volunteer work parties to help maintain the 1,1000-miles of trail in the Methow Valley Ranger District. We also help land managers with recreation management decisions by gathering information and sharing decisions at our bi-monthly forums between interested parties and member organizations. By promoting collaboration between partners, MVTC is able to take on complex trail projects that individuals cannot accomplish alone. A contribution through Give Methow helps the Trails Collaborative work with all users to enhance trails on public land across the Methow.

Public School Funding Alliance

Give Methow Participant

Help us Double Down to fund the programs our students love!
Each year, through generous donations, PSFA is able to fund over 35 enriching and inspiring programs for Methow students. However, this year due to significant state funding cuts, programs in art, activity clubs, field trips and mental health services have been eliminated and/or greatly reduced. As a result, PSFA is DOUBLING DOWN its fundraising efforts from $100,00 to $200,000 to save those programs and keep the ones we traditionally support. We are half way there! Please help us save the programs our students love!

We make sure that anyone who comes through our door is connected with a caring ally that walks beside them on their journey to well-being. Our Twisp Community Services Building also serves as a pulse on our community's needs, positioning us to advocate for community systems and practices that ensure no neighbor is left behind. By giving to Room One, together, we will continue to care for each other in ways that are meaningful and bold.

We offer a free weekly playgroup for families with children 0-3 at Hoodoo Blooms farm in Twisp. We offer a variety of free pop-up programming for children, youth, and families of all ages such as Baby Music in the Park during June at the Twisp Farmers Market. And we offer free seasonal community events such as our Dia de los Muertos/Ancestral Remembering event at TwispWorks. Weaving together all of our projects is our commitment to the goal of sustainable peace for all, especially in this time of climate crisis. Sustainable peace entails the physical, material, psychological (/spiritual), cultural (/ religious), and ecological wellbeing of all peoples. We are fundraising to support the continued delivery of free and accessible nature immersion and sustainable peace programming and events for children, youth and families here in the Methow Valley. Shafer Historical Museum

Give Methow Participant

The Shafer Museum cares for thousands of artifacts and teaches hundreds of people every year about Methow Valley's towns' early days. Your gift supports the people - volunteers and staff - who do this work all year.
The Shafer Historical Museum preserves and shares the history, culture and sense of place in the Methow Valley to inspire human connection and learning across generations. The Museum isn't just a place for dusty old stuff (although that is the "preserve" part of the mission) but a community of people who teach, learn and discover stories about the past that are tied to our present and future. Your gift will support that teaching - through new children's programs, hands-on activities for all ages, and new signs around the museum. You'll also be supporting artifact care like wood oil, replacement wood for Methow Valley icons like the Hart's Pass narrow body pickup truck, or simply the electricity that stabilizes the climate archival boxes for proper storage, of that old, precious and irreplaceable "stuff." Whether it's education or preserving the things of our past, your gift is vital to the operations of your local history museum. Thank you!

Town of Twisp Tree Board

Give Methow Participant

Seed to Sapling Tree Nursery
The Town of Twisp Tree Board started working with 1st graders at the grade school 3 years ago, collecting tree seeds in the Fall and having the first graders plant the seeds in pots in the Spring. We now have 180 trees of three different ages, with first, second, and third graders now watching their trees grow. The Tree Board conceived of the idea to do our part in implementing the Methow Valley Climate Action Plan, teaching children about how trees sequester carbon, clean the air, and give a myriad of benefits to our communities. The trees will be planted in the communities of the Methow after they've been nurtured in the nursery for approx. 4 years. The program has been a huge success and now that we have the nursery infrastructure in place, yearly operating costs will be our main financial need.

Winthrop Rink

Give Methow Participant

Heads up! Because the balls are flying at the Winthrop Rink. Help us upgrade our player and audience safety infrastructure.
Have you heard? The Winthrop Rink now operates as a four-seasons sports facility. Most people know us for our cold-weather sports like ice hockey and figure skating. With the installation of our multi-sport court surface (thanks Give Methow 2023 donors!), the Rink now offers an increased number of warm-weather sports, including basketball, soccer, and dodgeball. But something else has increased with these new sports… the number of balls flying out of bounds and onto the parking lot. (And our neighbor's hay fields… sorry, horsies!) The Rink's 10-foot perimeter glass isn't tall enough to catch those stray soccer kicks, dodgeball throws, and ball hockey shots. For our Give Methow 2024 campaign, our goal is to raise $10,000 to make audience and player-safety upgrades around the rink. For warm-weather sports, these include a 5-foot safety net extension above the glass. And for cold-weather sports, a spring-loaded safety glass system for our scorer's booth to soften collisions. (Which, by the way, are also sure to increase this cold season with the return of full-contact collegiate ice hockey to the Winthrop Rink. That's right, mark on your calendars the night of November 23, 2024, when Western Washington University will face off against Washington State University in our collegiate Great Outdoors Classic! More details to come...) With your support, we can keep more balls (and pucks) in play, where the action is hot! (And, well, also cold!)
